DISEASES OF SOYBEAN - POWDERY MILDEW

Powdery mildew is more of a curiosity than a serious threat to soybean production in Wisconsin. Powdery mildew of soybeans occurs in cool, humid summers, a weather pattern that is relatively uncommon in the mid-west. However, if you see soybean plants that look as though someone has sprinkled them with talcum powder or powdered sugar, then powdery mildew is a likely candidate. If you live an area where powdery mildew on soybeans is a chronic problem, consider using a soybean variety that has resistance to this disease.
