DISEASES OF CORN - ROOT LESION NEMATODE
Corn, like alfalfa and soybeans, is susceptible to infection by nematodes. The most common nematode found on corn is Pratylenchus penetrans, the root lesion nematode. Symptoms of nematode infections may or may not be visible above ground. Watch for symptoms that suggest water or nutrient stress, and that occur in patches (as in the photo). Patchy symptoms often are indicative of soil-borne problems, and often, nematode problems. Symptoms may include, among others, wilting, stunting, and yellowing.
