DISEASES OF SMALL GRAINS - SCAB (FUSARIUM HEAD BLIGHT)

The same fungus (Fusarium graminearum) that causes Gibberella stalk rot of corn causes scab of wheat. The fungus infects individual spikelets in the wheat head, causing them to have a bleached appearance. This bleaching is very apparent in immature heads where non-infected spikelets are green.
